About the artwork

The Lost Generation series is an intimate record of my attempt to deal with mixed origin and turbulent history of my country. Looking for a way to understand and recall the past, I intuitively refer to the figure of the child. Inspired by archival family photographs from the Yad Vashem Museum and the works of Roman Vishniac, my paintings depict children from before the Holocaust. I can't get over their sad looking faces. I want to bring them back to life, to compensate them for their lost childhood. Out of fear and melancholy, I try to stop the course of history. The cruelty inherent in people arouses my protest and disgust. I believe it is an artist's duty to ask questions about her own identity and take a stand in the time of darkness.
