Life on Venus II | The Human, Timed Auction
12 JANUARY 2021 - 28 JANUARY 2021Notes
Nour El Saleh's dream-like works explore notions of place, belonging and selective/relative memory. Working instinctively, Figures with exaggerated features appear out of the bodies of larger figures replicating and morphing on the canvas - interacting with the denizens of the artist's selective conscious. By utilizing theatrical references, mockery, masks and costumes, her characters come together in a two dimensional performance. El Saleh's works are a celebration of ugliness and an entry into a world of decadence made to overwhelm herself as well as the viewer.
Nour El Saleh was born in Beirut, Lebanon, grew up in the United Arab Emirates and currently resides in London where she received a bachelor in Fine Arts from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2019.
