Notes
Helga Stentzel works in the genre of household surrealism which is about finding magic in the mundane, seeing beauty in imperfections and connecting to our reality in a new way. Through her practice she focuses on the juxtaposition of the natural world with man-made objects - finding comfort in building a visual link between a highly recognisable object designed by a human being, and another equally recognisable object or subject of natural origin.
“I spent years seeing the world in black and white whilst pursuing the unachievable - perfection. It took me a long time to understand that reality, with all its complications and contradictions, is a lot more grounding than any polarising concept - no matter how convincing the ideology behind it may sound. Similarly to active listening, active looking, or looking around without judgement or expectations, can be very empowering when it comes to self-identification and a deeper understanding of the individuals and systems that we're integrated in.
Zoe the Zebra is here to remind you that life is nothing but a striped pattern:
If you find yourself going through a dark time, simply remember that better days are just a step away!
But what if I'm living my best life at the moment? Does this mean that there's darkness lying ahead of me?
Oh yeah! If there's light, there's darkness! Always! It's just how the universe works!
Having said that, nobody stops you from changing direction and walking along the white stripe, rather than across it"
