Notes

Elisabeth Lecourt is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, an alumna of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Pau, and has a post graduate diploma from Central St. Martins. Inspired by French poems, literature and influential figures in history, the artist makes portraits of people using maps and paper.

Ma Marche Vers Les Etoiles, translated as My Walk to the Stars, is a carefully folded portrait made from a map of Everest. It is a portrait of Samina Baig - the first and only Pakistani woman to climb Everest and the Seven Summits. Samina is also the youngest Muslim woman to climb Mount Everest, having done so at the age of 21.

Lecourt's was particularly drawn to Samina's story "because her brother let Samina go to the summit on her own without his support to give message of Women empowerment in Pakistan."
