Notes
Tina Crawford is a master of ‘free embroidery’, she uses the sewing machine with a fluidity that makes it extension of her own body; drawing not with pencil on paper but thread on fabric. Queenie was created for the birthday of the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth.
Tina describes 'Free embroidery' as backwards drawing: "I work in a haphazard way, I don't draw beforehand. I use the needle as my pencil and fabric as my paper: but I move the 'paper' not the 'pencil'. All the wobbles and mistakes just add charm and originality to the piece."
Tina trained at Central Saint Martins and has since developed her own artistic practice as well as a ceramic and textiles brand ‘Tobyboo’, receivingnotable success with major retailers such John Lewis and House of Fraser. She has exhibited widely with Rise Gallery hosting her 2016 solo exhibition ‘An Unnatural History’. Grayson Perry holds one of her doll works, created for the artist in his studio, and Paul Smith sings her praises.
Tina Crawford is also including Bird Crap in the auction and you can see her showing in action and learn more about her work in this interview.
