Following the success of ROBOTA + The Auction Collective’s recent open call auction, which raised more than £20,000 for the Disasters Emergency Committee, Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, ROBOTA is proud to present an auction of eight Ukrainian artists.
Four of the featured artists are working in temporary studios in Western Europe after fleeing the war in Ukraine. Danya Kovach and Dzvinya Podlyshetska are now based in Vienna, Nina Murashkina is in Barcelona, and Valeriia Buchuk has found refuge in Berlin. For those who remain, like Alexander Mikhalchyk, every day brings new danger; the building housing his studio in Irpin was bombed by Russian forces. The ongoing war makes the eight artworks more poignant and is likely to shape each artist’s practice for years to come.
ROBOTA is a platform promoting contemporary artists from post-Soviet countries in the UK. It was founded in 2021 by George Nelson, an art journalist who reports for The Art Newspaper from Moscow, Kyiv, and London.
