Zanny Mellor
Zanny Mellor is a British artist working across abstract painting, photography, collage and installation to explore a sense of energy, impermanence and transformation within the body, mind and landscape.
The abstract artworks presented here were made between 2013 - 2017, a period where Zanny’s practice focused on exploring the wild natural environments of Patagonia and Iceland. The process of painting itself became central to her navigation of the constantly changing weather and light conditions in these places. Through a multi-media approach she manipulates pigments and mediums, considering states of presence and remembrance through instantaneous actions of natural events, the depth of geological time and the shifting effects of light. The artworks range from densely layered painted ghost gestures, high speed mark-making, unique photograms made by subtle layering of shadows and painting surfaces that trick the eye.
Most recently she began The Breath Project, a creative community focused on health and wellbeing which raised funds for a charity supporting frontline workers through Rhythm Adjust, an online contemporary art auction and exhibition co-curated with Hannah Payne and hosted by The Auction Collective.
Zanny completed a Masters in Fine Art at City & Guilds of London Art School in 2015 with Distinction. She has 12 years experience working across disciplines in art, design and visual culture.
