Notes
Etched directly from life into an aluminium plate, this portrait shows Helen Adie's muse Daisy, a sitter who features prominently through her work.
Helen adds a theatrical twist to the pose, the bold lines of the ruff contrasting with the hand-coloured pompoms of the jacket. The thick, velvety black line achieved through drypoint gives the character a certain panache and the half-revealed face leaves a certain mystery about the identity of the figure.
Helen's desire to explore dramatic tension is a wholly unique approach that offers viewers striking contrasts and experimentations with light and dark, angle and focus, specific to that of someone who studied theatre.
Helen Adie is also including Feather Girl in The Spring Auction.
