Notes

"In 2013 Selfridges asked me to photograph the exterior of the store on Oxford Street, London, for their artwork archive. We came up with an idea of how we could produce something that had never been done before, and probably will never be done again. With the street being relatively narrow, there simply was no documented instances where all of the stores front was visible like it would be to eye.

The photographic piece was made from over 350 separate images painstakingly stitched together to form a full and front-on view of the famous exterior. From start to finish it took 1 year to complete. The original full-scale photograph is over 3 meters wide. It could only have been done in this way due to the sheer monumental scale of the building."

Andrew Meredith has long been interested in the built environment "during my studies, I shunned working with people in front of the camera in exchange for the relative solitude of the land and cityscapes I found infinitely more interesting. I focused more on the spaces that we pass through.
Soon after graduating, I moved to London to start working commercially."

In 2013, Andrew was granted permission to fully document the derelict and crumbling Island of Hashima in Japan, a former coal-mining commune that was once the most densely populated place on earth, and a successful utopian society until governmental policy forced the closure of the mining operations and subsequent desertion in 1976.

Andrew's next major personal project, Introversion, was an exploration into ambiguous, almost monochromatic, landscapes that were devoid of all identifying visual elements. Introversion quickly became more about recreating Luna and Martian landscapes that were based, loosely, around NASA satellite pictures released after the finding of historic traces of water on the red planet.
In 2015 The project was awarded the Photofusion project bursary to continue the work, followed by a solo show in the same gallery in mid 2016.

In my commercial practice Andrew Meredith specialise in Architecture and Interiors, shooting for some of the worlds greatest brands, agencies and magazines. Including Chanel, Hermes, Selfridges, Google, Mother, Geometry, HOK, Frame Magazine, Elle Decor, Dwell, Penguin Books, Rizzoli and many more.
