Art on a Postcard (AOAP) is delighted to present its second guest postcard auction in collaboration with War Child.
Split between two auctions, the bidding on each lot starts at just £50.
The proceeds will directly support War Child's work with children living through conflict worldwide.
This year's impressive line-up boasts diverse international contemporary artists and emerging talent. Highlights include British artist David Gamble's Polaroids of Andy Warhol's possessions, Tahnee Lonsdale's four oil paintings, Sarah Ball, Mandy El-Sayegh, Alex Foxton, and Corbin Shaw.
Additionally, AOAP is elated to welcome Dr. Fiona Curran, LA-based Sarah Miska Camilla Mihkelsoo, and welcome back Mahesh Baliga, Darren Reid, and Miya Ando.
As with all AOAP auctions, an array of exciting new talent is participating, including Slade graduate Yuma Radné, Rachel Hobkirk and New Contemporary's Luke Rooney, Elena Onwochei-Garcia, and Alexandra Beteeva.
Bidders will be able to see these unique original works in person at The Fitzrovia Gallery on Tuesday, 30 April, 10am - 6pm, before the auction closes on 7 May.
War Child and its partners create safe spaces for children to play, learn, and access psychological support. War Child specialises in responding rapidly to emergency crisis situations as they happen, delivering immediate and critical aid impartially to keep children safe and help them through their trauma.
Miya Ando is a Japanese and American artist based in New York. Her art is rooted in the dialectic coexistence of Eastern and Western cultures through the lens of natural phenomena. Growing up between two cultures, geographies, and languages–the Redwood forest in Northern California and a Buddhist temple in Japan–Ando makes sculpture, paintings, drawings, and installations that engage duality by merging the manmade with the organic, the material with the immaterial, and Eastern and Western culture. Across her oeuvre, she employs a variety of media–steel, wood, glass, aluminum, washi paper–to poetically articulate the cycles of life and the inexorable passage of time.
While I am a portrait painter, my works are more about re-presentation than representation, as I enjoy discovering existing images to re-contextualise with my knowledge of their subjects, my relationships with them, the shapes and sizes of the surfaces on which to paint, and my perceptions of the world. Each painting thus serves as a product of that endeavour, repeated for different images. - Temitope Adebowale
I thought it would be great to attach Polaroids as they are unique and archival.. The Warhol Wig and Glasses I photographed in his house, NYC. 1987. The Stephen Hawking 4x5 polaroid from the shoot which became the Book jacket for "A Brief History Of Time". The print of the Warhol Medicine Cabinet was printed in 1997. C Type Kodak print.
