Original art work created using an antique daylight printing process pioneered by a fellow female photographer in the 1840s. Here the combination of ancient printing techniques and free hand botanical painting combine to create a modern relic evoking a summers night.
“The symbolism in my images comes from my Highlands roots. A life lived in the hills with a closer connection to nature. Where the elements reign all powerful. Here natures found objects can be read as totems, to love, loss & folklore magic. It fuels my own creative process. Finding inspiration in unexpected places, which I can distil into something authentically my own. The constant thread through all of my work has been story telling. We all have a story to tell. Thats where we find our humanity.”
It’s an artists business to seek out & illustrate dreams. Images are poems about time. Artists are time travellers. Nancy MacDonald is a multimedia artist merging her classical training in fine art botanical painting with antique cyanotype photographic printing. The images are developed using day light on archival paper, resulting in delicate handprinted images. Depending on many factors, not least the fickle Scottish sunshine, the daylight print is then hand painted. Thus, blending these two processes, creating a modern relic.
