Terrence Higgins Trust - 2022, Timed Auction
20 FEBRUARY 2022 - 09 MARCH 2022Notes
London-based artist Georg Meyer-Wiel studied at the Royal College of Art and works both as an artist and designer of costume and stage for contemporary dance, ballet, film and opera. He has had major exhibitions at Hockney Gallery London, Henry Moore Gallery London, Michael Commerford Gallery Sydney, amongst others.
Meyer-Wiel's paintings are usually the result of complex material processes. Using a mix of acrylic paints, corroded metals and various natural materials, they are a direct physical and emotional response to the world that surrounds him.
He says: 'When observing the human body I always see a landscape. The actual shapes, the movement; even the experiences a person has had can be related to the way that an environment changes with time, for example through erosion resembling an aging process or in more abstract ways symbolising loss.’
