Notes

Wendy Mayer was born in Wales in 1975. She studied at Loughborough University School and was elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art and the Royal British Society of Sculptors in 2010. Her work has been exhibited at the London Art Fair, Basel Art Fair and the Saatchi Gallery. Her work is held in the Saatchi and the Beth Rudin DeWoody collections as well as several prominent international private collections. Mayer is represented by CHARLIE SMITH LONDON.

Mayer’s sculptures are a compelling mixture of surreal portraits which are often presented through the medium of dolls and toys. Much of her work is autobiographical. She usually works in wax and vinyl, making surreal portraits based on old family photographs.

Mayer has been experimenting with ceramic techniques and has developed an interest in the conflict between fine art and function. Teapot with Old Man is one of a trio of portrait teapots based on loss.

This lot is kindly donated by Wendy Mayer and Charlie Smith London.
