Notes
As a self-taught artist, Al was influenced by the art of the East, Africa and Europe of the 19th century in which Al found response in his work,
"but this is more of an observation and analysis, and later I began to move away from this, realising that the process is based on unconscious expression, which is similar to happenstance"
Still-life is one of my favourite subjects for work, it is simple and I find depth in this, but I do not like to think and express all these complex deep, and in my opinion, pompous phrases about deep meanings, etc. Words are not needed in this, the painting, the image is what you need, it is already a finished thing. I don't want to identify myself with any movement or styles, it's all improvisations."
Al would like his work to speak for itself. He believes that beauty can be the sole purpose of a work of art and within that one can search for their own thoughts, meanings and ideas, but, as Al puts it, “does it really matter if there is beauty as a question and an answer?"
Al lives and works in Astrakhan, Russia.
