Notes
Leg Lamp is a vibrant study of one of the "weird and wonderful" objects that artist Poppy BH grew up with in her family home and farm in Ireland.
In January this year, Poppy spent a month in Ireland recording some of the more unusual objects she had grown up around. Casting her artist's eye over these objects, she eulogises them in short sharp brush and pastel strokes. She invests in them a new sense of reality, one that appropriately brings the objects to life to give them a sense of character. Each object seems to be another member of the family.
"I like to capture my subjects with strong line works and bold colours, using a 'less is more' approach. In this way, I hope to imbue them with new meaning; to move away from purely representational art towards more playful depictions that places emphasis on the sentimental significance of these chosen people or objects."
This ongoing series of drawings is called Stills with a Story.
Poppy is also exhibiting It's Just a (Very) Little Lemon Tree in The Spring Auction.
