Mar profundo is one of a series of canvases exploring the seascape as an abstract concept and using a non-representational aesthetic to convey something of the catharsis we feel when we are confronted with that seemingly limitless space before us. The title, referring to both 'deep' but also 'weighty with meaning,' is also a nod to the colour harmony: the deep midnight blue that gradually turns brighter and lighter as the eye travels down the surface of the canvas.
