The Top 100 - Timed Auction
31 MAY 2021 - 24 JUNE 2021Notes
‘The Market at Noon’ is a piece inspired by the Mercato Centrale in Florence, where Philips spent several months after university. The lower floor of the market, dark under the large roof, was filled with fresh fruit, vegetable, and fish stands, but it was the butcher’s stall in the middle which had a luminous and captivating scene and drew her to capture it in paint. If you stand close to the painting, it can feel as if you are part of the waiting crowd.
Based in London, Cece Philips is a self-taught visual artist who is drawn to large-scale figurative oil paintings. Having just completed her first solo exhibition, ‘I See in Colour’ at HOME by Ronan Mckenzie in March-April 2021, Philips is partaking in several group shows this summer ahead of starting her MA in Fine Art at Camberwell UAL this coming September.
