Notes
"I was a keen skateboarder for ten years or so when I was young. In the 1980s skateboarding aligned itself with punk and played up its outlaw credentials - skating in illegal spots, graffiti, thrash metal bands. Only a whiff of that edginess still clings to the sport. So when I was asked by The Skateroom to design a board I was very aware of the social context of any image I were to place on one. The Skateroom collaborates with artists on deck designs and the profits go on to help finance social projects. This combination of waning street credibility and doing 'good works' seemed to slip in easily amongst certain themes in my other work. The image is the Duchess of Cambridge in the form of a monumental church brass. She is a popular figure who does good works and a church brass might be the only context where we would get to stand on top of a member of the Royal Family." - Grayson Perry, 2017.
Created in collaboration with The Skateroom, this deck was kindly donated by Grayson Perry in support of Centrepoint and their tireless work towards ending homelessness.
This board is part of an edition of 25 artist proofs, number ‘14/25’.
