These works on paper were made shortly after Zanny’s first visit to Iceland. They are studies in verticality, the artist measuring herself against the height of volcanic cliffs and falling cascades of a waterfall. After Seljalandsfoss was among a number of works that allowed the artist to move away from an image memory of a place and to focus on the process of painting itself, in a practice that explores both the binaries of a unique, singular moments and the repetitive cycles of natural systems.
