Studio Sale | Rachel McDonnell22 FEB 2021 12:00 AM - 16 MAR 2021 7:00 PM
This Studio Sale presents 30 works direct from the Stroud studio of contemporary artist Rachel McDonnell.
Rachel McDonnell is an award winning painter who has exhibited widely, including at the RA, RWA and BEEP painting biennial, as well as having numerous solo exhibitions. Her wide ranging interests are reflected in this eclectic body of work, ranging from abstraction to realism, created in the 10 years or so since she was pregnant with the first of her two children. As time has ebbed and flowed with parenthood, so her working style has necessarily changed from intricacy, to something more loose and involved with the possibilities of the material. These works are bound together by the common thread of her fascination with light, and our perception of it, and a delight in pattern and illusion. This Studio Sale sheds light on the work of recent years and gives collectors the chance to own her work from this period.
In the artist's words, "It feels like the right time for a studio sale, and it’s exciting to bring all of these paintings that have been hidden away in the studio during lockdown out into the virtual world for people to see".
Upcoming projects include: Landlinks, an exhibition which is a part of Groundworks, an ACE funded project bringing together artists and writers who are interested in art and the environment and Walking the Land, an artist collective which Rachel is part of, will exhibit work following a year long intermittent residency at Butterfly Conservation's Rough Bank Reserve, as part of the Back from the Brink project.
