The Big Issue auction of guitars and artwork

The Big Issue, Creative Giants and The Auction Collective present a fundraising auction of customised Stratocaster guitars and contemporary artwork. With video messages from the artists involved, this live stream auction promises to be an evening of entertainment, fundraising and artist engagement.

The Big Issue

"The Big Issue exists to create opportunity for the most vulnerable and marginalised people in the UK. In 2020, the world changed significantly, and life has not returned to normal.  Our vendors need your support more than ever and our mission is more important and more challenging than it has been in our 29-year history. We rely on the generosity of the public and are calling for you to support The Big Issue, to help those that need us now and the many that will in the future. You can make a difference.

Approximately 3,700 homeless and vulnerable people walk through The Big Issue’s doors every year looking for a hand up, not a hand out. Each vendor works for a living, receiving training and  tailored support. Vendors buy the Big Issue magazine for 50% of the cover price at £1.50 and sell the magazine on for £3, keeping the profit. The income our vendors earn doesn’t only benefit them, it also provides a means for them to play an active and positive role in the communities in which they sell.

COVID-19 was particularly devastating for our vendors. On March 20th 2020, we had to ask vendors to stop selling the magazine for their own health and safety. For 15 weeks vendors were unable to sell and we supported them as best we could.  From 6th July, after a huge health and safety review, we were thrilled to allow vendors to return to selling in a COVID secure way. Our vendors rely on the generous support from the public and we encourage everyone, where possible to buy and take the magazine from their local vendor."

Funds raised from The Big Art Auction will be used to support Big Issue sellers through this challenging winter period, as pandemic lockdown uncertainty makes life even tougher for those who make their living selling the magazine on the streets.
